Ideas for the weekend before Christmas

What can you do the previous weekend to Christmas? Here you go some ideas!

Santo Tomas Day (Barcelona) 

Centre Cultural Euskal Etxea ( Arc de Sant Vicenç), Saturday December 21th, at 12 h.

Today (Desember 21th) is Santo Tomas Day. This is a special and traditional date in Euskadi. So, the Centre Cultural Euskal Etxea, in Born, has prepared a celebration that includes  traditional Basque food (txistorra and sidra), activities as cercaviles and Basque music with trikitixa (a kind of accordion) or txalaparta (just 2 sticks and a solid surface. It is an instrument for percussion and usually is played by 2 people).


In Euskadi, these days, Txoronpio and Txoronpia pick up the cards kids has written to Olentzero, an old miner in charge of bringing gifts on Christmas.


Centre Cultural Euskal Etxea is just behind the restaurant or “txoco” Euskal Etxea (Placeta de Montcada 1-3). You can use the day to eat there or to visit the area and Montcada Street:

Vermut solidari (Barcelona)

Sunday (Desember 22th), from 13h a 21h, at 33 I 45( Joaquin Costa St., 4) (free entry)

In Raval quarter, this Sunday takes place  the Caring Vermouth (2nd edition). Organized by the entity Amor en Acción, this event includes a vermouth (Espinaler), music, DJ’s,prices and more to attract as many as possible. Why? Because all the benefits will go to the association, in order to continue their task of collecting and distributing food to people who really need it, unfortunately too much people.

First edition was a success, so the idea is to celebrate this event in a monthly basis. Initiatives like this are always welcome!

Fira del Gall (Vilafranca del Penedès, Decembre 21th-22th)


As we told you a couple of days ago, this weekend takes place the Cock Fair in Vilafranca del Penedès, where you can find a poultry market, if you want to buy , for ex.,a cock, but also 2 interesting gastronomic activities:

Mostra de cuina d’Aviram: a place to taste poultry dishes, cooked by some of the most important restaurants of the region using Gall Negre del Penedès (Black Cock). You have to pay to entry (6 euros) and for the dish you choose. See the prices here.

Supercellar: In Plaça del Ví (Wine Square) you can taste the Penedès wines and buy the bottles you want. See timetable and activities here.
