Sarrià, a little town in Barcelona

January 17, 2015

Placed at the food of Collserola mountain range, Sarrià was a independent town years ago. In 1921 was added to Barcelona and now is included in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, the uptown of the city. In the district, there are residential areas and cold enclosures with big flats, but the Vila de Sarrià, with small streets, some passages, emblematic shops and old houses, gives the area a more human appareance (meaning more popular).

The main axis is Major de Sarrià, a street plenty of small shops and family business, now luckily pedestrian (years ago was impossible to take a walk in the street, with cars and buses).

Inside the old town, some gastronomic options very interesting.

In Major de Sarrià:

The star of the street is Bar Tomàs (Major de Sarrià,49). A emblematic bar famous by the patatas bravas they offer. The bravas are really tasty and, during a long time, were considered the best of Barcelona. (Nowadays, there are voices claiming other bravas in the city: People from everywhere keep coming to this place just to taste the potatoes.

Panino Silvestre (Major de Sarrià 92): specialized in “italian” sandwiches, warm outside and cold inside. Some products come from Milan.

El Canalla/El Villano (Major de Sarria 95): Divided in 2 levels, below the Canalla Bar, small place to taste platillos and tapas. Above, El Villano, a place for dinners and good views. Quality products and prepared cookers. They have a terrace in Major de Sarria Square, a good place in summer and better if you have kids.

Colmado Cactus (Major de Sarrià 110): tradition in capital letters. Old grocery that looks like it was years ago.

More tradition: Antiga Casa Rafael (Major de Sarrià 77) and Casa Joana (Major de Sarrià 59). Traditional Catalan cooking  and good menu. And El Vell Sarrià (Major de Sarrià 93), rice specialist.
