Next to the Mediterranean Sea, this city, that has changed a lot during the last years, offers different and interesting places to visit and a strong gastronomy which is worth to know.

Mercat Central The most famous market in Valenica, plenty of activity and stalls.

La Lonja Magnificent building in the old part of the city, where fish was sold centuries ago.

Bodega Casa Montaña:  Placed in Es Cabañal, the fishermen’s neighbouhood next to the Malvarrosa beach. It looks like an old cellar and you can find there tapas. There is a restaurant inside.

In the city center:

El Bon Menjar (Carrer dels Assaonadors o Calle Zurradores, 7,  Valencia): delicious rice in a traditonal place. Good option to menu, tasty food and good prices.

Horchatería Santa Catalina (Santa Caterina Sq, 6, Valencia): classical place to taste horchata with fartons, emblematic examples of Valencian “sweet” gastronomy.

Other recommendations in the city center, Le Creperie Bretonne (Bordadores St 6, Valencia), creps are the specialty, and La Pappardella (Bordadores St.5, Valencia) nice Italian restaurant.

Mercat Colón , out of the city center. Beatiful building, nice to visit in Christmas time.

And Valencia offer a lot of things to see, like the Malvarrosa beach and the promenade, with spanish stars mentions on the floor (imitating Hall of Fame),

or the Ciutat de les Ciències i les Arts, a walk in the city center, etc

We hope this post help you to eat well there!

Faborit Barcelona

Faborit is a café placed in the famous modernist building Casa Amatller, in Passeig de Gracia 41, next to the also famous Casa Batlló. 20150726_121654

In this tourist place, iconic example of the modernism of Barcelona, you can suprisingly access through the street inside the ground floor and go to this Café.

Inside, diferent parts. A salon with tables, a part for chocolate lovers, a part with a big table to share the space with other customers, the big part to buy your juice or coffee and a part outside, a kind of little patio.

Inside you can choose diferente kind of juice,  coffee and Amatller chocolate.

A comfortable place to stay and enjoy a modernist space.

The old part of El Clot in Barcelona

Near Plaça de les Glòries, there is the old part of El Clot. We recommend you to visit this neighbourhood of Barcelona, away from tourism and with some remarkable places.

The main street is El Clot Street. It is interesting to take a walk through this street, because there is a lot of history you can find in some details.

La Caixa building

About gastronomy, in El Clot Street you can find some emblematic places:

Bodega Sopena (El Clot St., 55): popular cellar where you can taste wine or vermut with the old people of the area and young people coming from different parts of the city.

Pastisseria La Palma (El Clot St.,72-74 ): classical pastry shop with quality pieces of pastry.  Another shop dedicated to bombons is in the same street.

Others:  Xurreria El Clot (El Clot St, 108), to taste churros,  Marlen Tastets (El Clot St,75), to have a drink or tapa or Clot 76 (El Clot St, 76) for cocktails at night.

Some terraces and pastry shops in the square in front of El Clot Market, the heart of this area.

Also in this street, Llibreria El Pebre Negre (El Clot St, 41), interesting bookshop. They organize activities, also for children.

And Parc del Clot, a park that was designed integrating the structure of the old “El Clot” train station.

And hidden interesting streetart pieces, here one dedicated to Carmen Amaya:

Another little town with its own character in Barcelona, which is worth to know.

Café Forn Palmier

An artisan pastry shop, Cafe-Forn Palmier (Còrsega 611) is the new kid  in the town of Sagrada Familia (and very welcome).

Comfortable and very lighting, with big windows and a wood bar in front of them as a kind of nordic decoration, keeps the local style of pastry shops with the classical tables.

Coffee, variety of pastry (we taste a croissant with cereals), homemade cakes and salt pieces (empanadas on request).

And details: fork and knife for the croissant and straw for the drink, perfect if you are in a hurry or if you have to work after the break in the pastry shop (less clothing or face stains;)

This is a good place to disconnect reading the newspaper, drinking a coffee and watching people walking on the street.

Afternoons in Barcelona: in the rooftops of the hotels.

From July 9th to August 2nd, in the rooftops of some of the most well known hotels in Barcelona, you can taste 3 pairs of tapas and a beer (Inèdit Estrella Damm) with the offer of “Vespres Inèdits” (20 euros for 2 people). There are 3 kind of tapas and every hotel offer its own creations.

We visited Hotel Condes de Barcelona, in Passeig de Gràcia 71-73.

Good views of La Pedrera,Passeig de Gràcia and the roofs of Barcelona.

And a small swimming pool to the lucky customers.

About the offer, jamon serrano, ceviche of octopuss and lima and bravas.

Tasty tapas and good views. And some music were preparing a performance when we left.

Complete option in this summer.

Placed in a discrete street in Girona, Rocambolesc (Santa Clara St.,50, Girona) is a small ice cream shop and decorated in the style of Willy Wonka. The shop and products are a Jordi Roca’s idea,  the youngest of the Roca’s brothers and now the World’s Best Pastry Chef (2015). Alejandra Rivas, his wife and creator of some of the ice creams, was serving the artisan products when we visited the shop.

You can choose between six flavors, each of them with the toppings and decoration you want. We decide to follow the Alejandra’s suggestions.

The ice creams we tasted were:

Vanilla with chocolate topics: good taste but a classical flavour. No surprising.

Green ice cream: apple, lima and more. It was an interesting mixture of acid and sweet flavours, really good.

Baked apple: if you are more fan of sweet than acid taste, it was your option. Pieces of apple inside. Very tasty.

Coconut and violet: our favourite. The mixture was delicious, the coconut matches perfectly with the violet.

Pending for us the chocolate and yogurt ice creams! Some of the 6 flavours changes. Who knows which one will find when we will come back!

There are some flavours you can choose only if you take home the ice cream, for example, “dulce de leche”.

You can eat the ice cream in a waffle cone and also in a kind of sandwich (heated) with ice cream inside.

And “polos” (just ice) remembering some of the ice cream we ate when we were young.

So, an ice cream shop based on imagination and quality. Now a new shop has been opened in Madrid. Enjoy it!
